Co-operative Social Media Engagement Groups for Canadian Businesses ©

Zig Ziglar said, “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Nowhere does this wisdom apply more than in business networking, including online networking and co-operative promotion.

We’ve been testing social media engagement groups for over a year and have been impressed with the outcome.  These groups offer a place in which people can support each other in their business social media engagement efforts, not just with mutual network following but also with comments and sharing.  They’re often focused on certain segments or sectors, such as pets or women-owned businesses.

With mutual support, we all benefit through better search results in both search engines and individual social media network internal searches. We also enjoy increased exposure as interactions show up in individual streams. These networking groups are like any other mutual back-scratching group (online or offline) and they are not intended to game the system, but instead exist to facilitate mutual support, interaction, and knowledge sharing.  They’re comparable to a chamber of commerce, but with a tighter focus.

It’s important to understand these groups are a commitment.  Most insist that regular participation is mandatory and you will be monitored to ensure you’re holding up your end of the bargain.  It isn’t the same as “free follow” posts where you can post your network link and run.  You are expected to contribute valuable interactions and information on a regular basis.  If you can’t commit to supporting your fellow group members, this isn’t an option for you.

Each of these co-operative networking groups work differently, usually dictated by the network they’re working in.  For example, Facebook co-operative social media engagement groups usually involve designated “share” days in which you participate by adding your Facebook page to a post.  Then, you are expected to interact with a certain number of pages in the post.

Facebook groups often utilize “shares” for mutual social media networking and interaction.

Other networks may not facilitate such straightforward mutual arrangements so they’ll be set up differently.  Triberr, for example, makes it very easy to share group member posts on Twitter by simply selecting them from the feed, but their free group numbers are seriously limited and their premium account fees are very high.  Pinterest still makes it awkward to bring a group together, but it can be done with invitations.  LinkedIn is wide open for networking with all of your social media pages if the group welcomes this method of mutual support.

Co-operative Social Media Engagement Groups for Canadian Businesses

As is often the case, we could find few of these wonderful networking social media engagement groups strictly for Canadian businesses.  We are so convinced of the power of these groups that we are willing to put forth the effort to start and maintain them.  Thriving Canadian businesses are good for everyone and we’re happy to facilitate this method of mutual support.

The pleasant surprise for me were the connections that naturally formed between business owners within these groups.  Building relationships with other Canadian business owners is what networking is all about, no matter where, how or why you do it.

Great idea! We need to give each other a hand if we want to compete with the rest of the internet.
