The 2014 FedEx Express Canada Online Shopping Intentions Survey (Angus Reid) indicates the West has been won by the Internet in Canada. British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan are expected to show double-digit growth in online numbers, and most of them intend to shop online this holiday season. Other Provinces aren’t too far behind, as Canada finally embraces the Internet as a convenient alternative to conventional shopping.
“Doing all or some of our holiday shopping online is now the new norm in Canada,” said FedEx Express Canada President, Lisa Lisson.

- 66% of Canadians in the $50,000-$99,999 income bracket will shop online this holiday season, up from 56% in 2013.
- 77% of Canadians earning $100,000+ intend to shop online in 2014, up from 73% in 2013.
- While the young still rule the online shopping world, older Canadians aren’t far behind these days. 75% of 18-34 year olds will shop online this holiday season, compared to 67% of those aged 35-54. 32% of Canadians over 55 will utilize eCommerce options this Christmas.
- Canadian Men are more likely than Canadian women to shop online, with 64% doing so in 2014, compared to 58% of women. Both increased from last year, when 52% of men and 49% of women shopped online.
- Alberta leads the pack of online shoppers in Canada, with 69% doing their holiday shopping online in 2014, up 13% from 2013.
- 68% of people in British Columbia indicate they will shop online this year, up 19% from 2013.
- Ontario isn’t far behind at 63%, up from 54% in 2013.
- Manitoba is neck and neck with Ontario with 62% of residents planning to shop online in 2014, up from 54% last year.
- 53% of Quebec shoppers will head online this year. However, only 49% of French-speaking Canadians will do some or all of their holiday shopping on the Internet in 2014.
- 53% of Atlantic Canadians will do their 2014 holiday shopping online.
